INTRODUCTORY A BRIEF STORY OF THE WRITER'S LIFE When I was three weeks old I had my first operation performed on me and took my first anaesthetic. At eight years of age I had my second, and from then on I underwent several others. Each one of these operations left me in a weakened condition, and so I was subject to most of the children's ailments and before I had regained my strength there would be another operation. Most of these operations were for stomach trouble. On my last operation they found my stomach in a condition beyond treatment and said I had not long to live. They said there was no use in keeping me in the hospital when there was nothing more they could do for me. My folks took me home figuring they would not have me long. I would suffer most terrible pain 24 hours a day. A short while after returning home an old Indian lady came into our house to get warm. My folks made her welcome, got her warm and gave her a hot dinner. When she saw the condition I was in she wanted to know why something wasn't being done for me. My mother told her that they had done all there was to be done. She told them that in return for their kindness she could and would cure me if she had their permission. The way she suggested was "NATURE'S WAY" of healing, but after considerable talk and explaining she agreed to let the old Indian lady do what she could for me. She went away and came back later with some herbs, roots, barks, leaves and berries which she had picked, dried and prepared herself. She made a tea of them and gave it to me to drink. Twenty-four hours after my first cup of that tea my pain and suffering was gone; I felt sure then that I was going to get well. She instructed my mother to give me this tea three times a week. The old lady came once a month with more tea and more instructions about my food. In six months she had me so built up that I could do most any avork. When I left the hospital that last time I weighed 98 pounds; to-day I weigh 200 pounds, am 51 years of age and in perfect health. I became interested in herbs and later bought that formula from that old Indian lady, and had it registered under the name of "LYLE'S STOMACH HERBS." Since that time I have studied, experimented and bought formulas from the Indians until to-day I am considered to have one of the largest and best herb businesses in this country. 1
