¦-% ment had commenced in time. To show the matchless insight of this Great Physician, we here append a brief extract from Dr. King's " Private Notes " on the subject of Pulmonary Consumption. After clearly denning each symptom, the discussion closes with the following REMARKABLE THESIS : 1.That Tuberculoses is only the greatest of many forms in which this fearful scourge may be identified. 2.That the disease, in every form, is due to one all-sufficient cause, and traceable to a false nutrition of the Blood, in consequence of some functional deficiency or defect of the bile or pancreatic secretions. 3.That in every case the initial cause of attack is cold or chill, which seems to permanently depress the regular vitality of those functions. 4.That the blood must be relieved of its burden, either by the Lungsby the nasal and bronchial passagesor by a chronic ulceration, often at the rectum, and hence a destructive diathesis ensues, whether Tuberculous, Catarrhal or ' 'Fistula in Anus,'' etc. 5.That Functional equilibrium cannot be restored except by chemical aid, or Electro-Magnetism, applied, whether externally or internally, so as to reach the very seat of vital depression. 6.That hereditary taint is more ominous only within the seven years including and next following the age of puberty, and may be obviated always by assiduous attention to functional treatment as abo^e described. We have given the above extract with such verbal changes only as were necessary to a full, though brief, outline of the argument, knowing that it contains many hints of priceless value to the Medical Profession, and at once opening the door of hope to thousands who may be threatened with, pulmonary disease. Since chemical action is largely interchangeable with heat, and since Electricity and Magnetism seem to be reciprocal forms of the same imponderable force, it is notable with what scientific precision Dr. King announced the name " Electrobole." This word is made from the Greek " Elektron," which is Yellow Amber, a fossil resin, well known, said to be highly electric, and the Latin word " bolus," signifying "pill." AH this alludes to the "Armature," or coating of compound resinous balm, conditioned as an Electro-Magnet to invigorate the languid nerve and thus restore the functional equilibrium. Kegular series of
