Breads You Will Like NUT BRAN BREAD 2 cups flour 2 cups bran 4 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 cup chopped nuts 3^2 cup sugar 1 }/2 cups milk 1 egg, well-beaten 3 tbsp. melted shortening Sift flour, measure, and sift with baking-powder, salt anc* sugar. Add nuts and bran. Mix thoroughly. Add milk, egg and shortening. Beat thoroughly, Pour into well-oiled pan. Bake in hot oven forty-five to fifty-five minutes. BRAN MUFFINS 2 cups bran 1 tsp. salt 1 cup flour 1 cup milk 1 tsp. soda 1 egg }4 cup molasses 2 tbsp. melted shortening. Sift flour before measuring. Add soda and salt and sift again. Add well beaten egg mixed with milk, molasses and bran. Add shortening last. Bake in hot oven (425° F.) 20 minutes. Makes a dozen muffins. DATE MUFFINS 1 egg 4 tbsp. sugar 2 cups flour 1 cup dates, pitted and sliced ]/i tsp. soda 1 cup sour milk }/2 tsp. salt Y% cup melted shortening Sift flour and measure. Add soda, salt, sugar and sift again. Add dates. Mix beaten egg, milk and shortening and combine with first mixture, stirring as little as possible. Bake 20 minutes in a hot oven, (425° F.). Makes a dozen muffins.
