HANDBOOK OF INFORMATION Postal Information Letters, and all matter in the nature of a letter or written correspondence. To points in Canada, the United States or Mexico, 3 cents for the first ounce and 2 cents for each additional ounce. To the United Kingdom and British Possessions, 4 cents for the first ounce and 3 cents for each additional ounce. Unpaid or insufficiently prepaid letters posted in and addressed to Canada are charged with double the amount of postage due thereon. Private post cards require a 2 cent stamp when sent to points in Canada, the United Kingdom and British Possessions, and to the United States and Mexico. Newspapers and periodicals published in Canada, when not mailed from the office of publication, may be sent to any Postoffice in Canada, the United States or Mexico, or to British Possessions, at the rate of I cent for each four ounces. Books and pamphlets, circulars and other printed matter, to points in Canada, the United States or Mexico, I cent for each 2 ounces. To other countries, 2 cents per ounce. May be sent at parcel post rates at option of sender. All classes of matter except parcel post parcels may be registered on payment ofa registration fee of 10 cents in addition to the postage. When sending money by mail it is best to use Postal Money Orders where possible, as the rates charged are low and the risk of loss is practically eliminated. Above rates do not apply to points reached by stage lines over 100 miles in length. Certain objectional articles are prohibited, such as liquor and explosives, and liquids must be packed so as to prevent breakage and consequent injury to other mail matter. The limit for a parcel post packet is eleven pounds, and the general size limit is thirty inches in length by one foot in width or depth, but parcels will be accepted up to three feet six inches in length provided that the combined length and girth does not exceed six feet. Parcels should be prepared for mailing so as to permit easy examination. Parcels may be insured against pilferage or damage on payment of a small fee in addition to postage. Parcels may be sent C.O.D. and the money will be collected at destination and forwarded to the sender by Money Order.
