It not only conforms to the requirements of the British Pharmacopoeia but also answers the much more stringent demands of the following " ammonia test" for associated alkaloids. Its purity is thus doubly assured. The ' Wellcome' standard test demands that 5 c.c. of a saturated aqueous solution of quinine sulphate at 150 C. (prepared from an amount of quinine sulphate equivalent to 2 gm. of the fully-hydrated salt and 20 c.c. of water) should require not more than 6 c.c. of 10 per cent, ammonia to effect a clear solution.
