TIE JOLtRNA Is PRINTING CO., Sudbury, Ont.-
'lite progranimme of tlie Studbury District Teachers'
-Assciattiont is easily the best specimien in your pack-
age. lihe arrangeiment is nieat and well handled.
TIe offlicers' ilameis on tlhe last page, lhowever, would
look better if all centered. Chapleau Fire (io. book-
let is good in corimposition tand pressrwork. The ar-
rangeineit of the cover page, being rather irregular
alrld spreiad out, in l:xalmple IT I have endeavoretl
to rtake a illore uniforml arran?gement.
THE CAKLETON PRESS, Toronto, Ont.-Oll the
iwhole, yoir saimples are well arrranged typograpliical-
ly, witlh ianiy novel effects in design and color com-
bination. Answering yotr qttery re the use of onie
tvpe face, would say it is lrmore preferable, as it pro-
duces a uniforimity of tonle throughout; sufficient
crontrast a rnd ertphasis bleiing obtained by the differ-
ent sizes of the series used. If an extra rule had
been placed around tihe proglratrrime proper of the
inside pages of tlie St. Brilalrnaas progranmme, andi
the mratter dirawn in a little, it wotld liave given the
necessary errphasis to these parts of the pages. The
W. iH. Ford letterhead and renvelope are ineat in
arrangement, tbut tlhe three-point rule is a trifle
heavy for the type face uised. The excellently well-
I)alanced (lesigr and plelasing effect of the Thoimpson
& Co. bill-head is qtite spoiled by tlie use of the
heavy black rule a t the top. This shout ld ha.ve been
printed in the tint. The tw(o-poi?tt rule wotld have
been better if placed leneathl the heavy rule, as it
would soften down tihat side of tlie rule. Place a
piece of oniorn-skin paper over the heavy rule and
vou will see thle effect it would give if pririted in
the tint. Verv dignifie(l and pleasing is tlie effect
of the Ernest Gray announcemeint. Do not use
periods before anid ifter short lines, a. is thie (cse in
this sample. The typographical arrangemaent of the
vocal recital programitire is good. The tint, here used
is much too strong, bowever. Especiallv is this
noticeabl te on th e isie pages, where it conflicts
wtit l the tvpe matter, and( spoils thle ricl effect that
otherwise would have been obtained.
